One of the prettiest parks I've visited ...Check in was handled smooth and quick by a very friendly and knowledgeable Staff. The park and all its facilities were extremely clean .We stayed in a screened shelter practically on the water at the "Hen house Ridge" park ...Next time ( and there will be a return trip ) we will choose to stay in the "Walnut Ridge" park only because the waterways in that area are more attuned to Kayaking.
This place is very quiet and serene. I feel peaceful surrounded by the lake. I have been here twice by myself just to quiet my mind. I would like to come back to do some hiking.
This park is full of wildlife. We saw squirrels, gators, deer, possum, armadillo, fox various birds. We also heard a baby cat crying in the woods. Camping spots here are plentiful. Facilities are clean. It was a great experience.
Very big for a Texas State Park. Plenty to see and do. The canoeing is worth the stay on its own. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
Even though I mostly sat around and took it easy. I still had a great time. I walked around, took pics. And visited with 2 camp host.and park rangers. Their friendly nice and respectful. To bad I don't have the money for another camp out right now
